This year you will be working to develop skills in order to be an effective writer and communicator. One of our major goals in 7th grade ELA is for students to be able to write organized and well-developed paragraphs using textual evidence as support. You will be working on several different types of writing for different purposes including text-based writing, persuasive essay writing, research-based writing, as well as creative writing.

You will also be developing your skills to become a more effective and strategic reader. Some of the books we will be reading this year are:  Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, and A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. We will also be reading a variety of short stories, articles and poems to go along with these novels. These rich texts will shape our class discussions, activities and writing assignments during the year.  We will also work on refining grammar skills and building vocabulary through quizzes, sentence corrections, and above all writing revisions.
