On Saturday November 1st, science teacher Ashley Young took a group of 8 girls from IACS to the Girls STEM Summit Conference at UMass Lowell.  The summit was for girls in grades 8-12 who are considering a career in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields.  During the summit, the girls participated in 6 different hands-on workshops designed to highlight different career fields.  The ones we got to see included electrical engineering, plastics engineering, environmental science, nutrition, physical therapy, and drug development.  The girls got to connect with female scientists, hear from a female keynote speaker, and learn about tips for applying to college.

A valuable learning experience was had by the 8 girls that attended...Maya Hedge, Alexa Vincent, Sydney Sylvain, Ariana Schmidt, Julia Crane, Victoria Wellensten, Emma Brigham, and Sonali Gurjar.
