It is hard to believe that another school year is nearly over, and yet here we are. The seniors last day of classes is today and students in grades 9-12 will be participating in Endersession next week. Endersession is a very unique opportunity for our students; I’m not aware of another school in the state that does anything quite like it. Teachers spend a significant amount of time creating one week courses (experiences is probably a more appropriate term) for students and then a brochure of all the options is published in December. Students indicate their top 5 choices in January and if they don’t get their first choice they usually end up with their 2nd choice. This year we have several travel experiences for students: Subduction in Seattle: Volcanoes & Emerging Ecologies in the Pacific Northwest; community service in the Dominican Republic; New England by Train, Washington, D.C., New York City, Boston, Exploring Florida’s Gulf Coast, and the Maine Seacoast. Students will also be participating in several outdoor adventure Endersessions that include: Backpacking the White Mountains, Golfing, Whitewater Rafting in Maine, and Disc Golf. Other Endersession courses have students learning about photography, open-fire cooking, film production, reality gaming, and sports mixed with some community service. I hope all students have a safe and memorable time during Endersession and that they appreciate one more example of why IACS is a unique and special experience for all students. |
