Biochemistry
Course Overview
Students will explore the four major biochemicals in the human body at the molecular level: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Students will learn how these biochemicals work together to help the human body function. There will be an emphasis on how biochemicals relate to human health and disease. Major processes will be studied, including DNA replication, transcription, and translation. Additionally, students will learn about metabolism in the human body. Student work will be diverse, and may include projects, labs, online simulations, and homework assignments. Tests are given at the end of each unit. The four strands of experimentation, enduring understanding, modeling and work habits will guide student learning goals and assessments.
