PreCalculus w/Trigonometry

Course Description

In this course, students will continue to develop concepts from Algebra II and further investigate families of functions (rational, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric).  Students will focus on modeling and problem solving using all of these functions and will also explore polar coordinates, complex numbers, recursive patterns and sequences and series.

Schedule of Major Topics

Students will have regular assessments over the course of the semester to monitor their mastery of course topics.  The frequency of these assessments may increase or decrease with the nature of the current material.  It is reasonable to expect weekly quizzes  to assess understanding of that week’s lessons.  Tests will be scheduled at the conclusion of a topic.  Projects work will also occur during the semester and students can expect to complete at least one unit project in each semester.  

Semester 1

  • Parent functions (Rational, Quadratic, Polynomial, Exponential & Logarithmic Functions)
  • Recursive Patterns (Sequences, Series, Arithmetic Series, Geometric Series)
  • Trigonometric Functions (Radian Measure, Trig Functions, Graphs and Inverse Trig Functions)

Semester 2 begins January

  • Analytic Trigonometry (Fundamental Identities, Solving Trig Functions, Sum & Difference Formulas)
  • Laws of Trigonometry (Law of Sine, Law of Cosine, Vectors and Dot Products, Complex Numbers)
  • Analytic Geometry (Circles, Parabolas, Hyperbolas, Parametric Equations & Polar Coordinates)
