Música Latina

Course Overview:

This survey for level 2 students  will study music from Latin America and Latino communities in the United States.  Students will use songs, musical artists, and culture to build their communication skills towards the intermediate level. Students, through music, will focus on navigating situations and carrying out a variety of interactions:  asking and answering questions, and, of course, telling about their own lives and opinions. Genres will include, but are not limited to: chicano rock, latin pop, tejano, and reggaeton.


Class Goals:

  • Describe songs, experiences, feelings using combined sentences and a variety of language.

  • Navigate situations in the classroom using Spanish 100% of the time.

  • Create opinions and questions about a variety of subjects,

  • Understand others and be understood to maintain positive conversation in the Target Language.

Conversation- 35%

Class participation in the target language, graded conversations, interviews.

Presentation- 15%

Writing Prompts (3), Video Diaries (3), Presentation of selected song/musician (1)

Interpretation- 15%

Comprehension of selected videos, comprehension of selected songs, participation on Google Classroom.

Work Habits- 35%

Graded notebook checks (3), homework completion, completion of digital portfolio.


Honors:

A speaker with the desire to take Música Latina for honors credit will complete the following activities:

  1. Contribute weekly to the Honors Google Classroom site by responding to prompts, asking questions of other peers, and continuing classroom conversations.

  2. Contribute 4 songs to the class with themes, ideas, and activities for the class to use.

  3. Complete extra Honors level prompts on writing, video diaries, and projects.

In order to justly assess all student work, please expect a two week window from the due date of an assignment before a grade is posted onto x2.
