HIGH SCHOOL WELLNESS
Our students learn to recognize the connections between academic disciplines and applications to
the outside world. Skills and concepts are not taught in isolation; students and staff collaborate to form a highly connected community of learners. We hold a belief that increased connection and collaboration in our school fosters a richer learning experience.
Our students are required to put their knowledge and skills into context through authentic project assignments. Additionally, they are expected to create and present their work publicly via oral presentations as well as on-line digital portfolios. Finally, high school students extend their learning outside the classroom through off campus experiences.

Overview Our wellness department is helping to teach our students how to be healthy in the real world. Through a range of activities and discussions we are teaching our students what tools they have to live a long and healthy life. Curriculum All students at IACS are enrolled in a full year wellness class that runs opposite the advisory block. In these courses we offer a wide range of lifelong activities such as yoga, frisbee, and cross country skiing. By being introduced to a wide range of activities throughout their years at IACS, we hope that each student will find enjoyment in one or multiple activities and continue them throughout their life. In addition to physical activities all 10th grade students receive health education. This discussion based course allows for all students to learn how to make healthy decisions on their own so they may live long happy lives. Some of the topics covered in this course are healthy relationships, substance abuse, and sex education. |
